I have been selected for this residency in Lisbon alongside other 5 Portuguese and 4 European art and design students to dive into the world of traditional basketry.
Working and living together with five masters of Portuguese basketry techniques, we spent three weeks researching and testing new ways of including the craft in a contemporary context. In pair with Denise Santos we developed the concept of Tocaminhos, way-finding system that use the sensory and sculptural potentials of basketry traditional techniques and materials. Working with the masters has been a wonderful opportunity which overcame every language barrier.
